ao.Univ.-Prof. MMag. DDr. Rupert Klieber

Born in 1958. Studies of both History and Theology in Salzburg and Wien - two Masters and two doctorates in those disciplines. From 1989 to 1994 at the "Institut für Kirchliche Zeitgeschichte" at the "Internationales Forschungszentrum" in Salzburg. Since 1994 at the Institute of Church History, now Institute of Historical Theology, at the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Vienna. Habilitation for Church History in 1998. Since then Extraordinary Professor of Church History at the University of Vienna.

Research-Projects and Perspectives:

  • Organizing and leading of the International Research Project "Bischofs-lexikon" with teams of historians from Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, the Ukraine, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy: elaborating a handbook of offical biographies of all catholic bishops of the Habsburg Empire 1804 to 1918. The first volume regarding the Kingdom of Hungary will be edited in 2018.
  • Organizing and leading of the International Research Project "Frintaneum" with teams of historians from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, the Ukraine, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy: elaborating the biographies of all alumni of the post-graduate Theological Academy St. Augustine (Frintaneum) existing in Vienna from 1816 to 1918. The 2nd volume will be printed in 2019.
  • Organizing and leading of the Research Project "Pius XI and Austria": with hitherto three doctoral projects, an international symposium in 2012 under the title "PIUS XI., ÖSTERREICH und die "kleinen katholischen Nationen" Europas" and other activities (see: piusxi.univie.ac.at)
