What is man?
What is his constitution?
Which possibilities of action does he have?
What is his relationship with God?
What is the relationship between the sexes?
These questions have already been asked by multiple theologians of the Middle Ages. Their answers served as a background to the discussion of other theological concepts, such as the debate on the nature of sinfulness and the need for salvation of man or ethics. The conference will approach this wide field by a variety of aspects: The wide panorama of anthropological reflections from the sixth to the end of the fifteenth century will be addressed by different disciplines ad scholars from Medieval Studies, paying attention to both the historical and the theological contextes. The richness of the medieval debates on man and humankind has no doubt an impact on contemporary controversies and modern theological discussions.
